 XenDesktop 7 Installation

In my previous post XenDesktop 7 – Deep Dive – Introduction I have described the main differences between previous versions of XenDesktop and XenDesktop 7. In this document I’d like to focus on XenDesktop 7 instalation procedure.

Installation on first server

XenDesktop 7 iso is available for download from Citrix website, so I downloaded the iso file and mounted the iso in the designated Windows Server 2012 VM.

1. Wait for the instaler welcome screen and click  Start

2. Click  Delivery Controller

4. StoreFront will be installed on a separate server so I select only the Delivery ControllerStudioDirector and License Server. Click Next

5. Click Next. 

Note: SQL Server Express 2012 is already installed on this server and option to install SQL Server Express 2012 is not displayed. Compare Figure 5 and 10 to see the difference.

6. Click Next

8. Deselect Launch Studio and click Finish

Installation on second server

On the second server follow the same procedure but there are 2 differences:

1. on the screen Core Components deselect options Store Front and License Server as it is shown in Figure 9 below.

2. on the screen Features deselect option Install Microsoft SQL Server 2012 as it is shown in Figure 10 below.

At this point you are now ready to launch the Desktop Studio and start XenDesktop site configuration. Stay tuned for Part 2 – Create XenDesktop Site, where I will configure a XenDesktop site and will bring XenDesktop 7 to life.
