I prepared a beta version of my XenDesktop 7.5 sizing calculator. I would like to create a tool to prepare a baseline for discussion about hardware and storage requirements for VDI projects. In order to create a list of functional servers you have to provide basic information about the project. As a result you will get the following data:
- number of infrastructure servers with the split into data centers
- total amount of vRAM and vCPU required for infrastructure servers
- total amount of vRAM and vCPU required for VM’s
- total amount of hardware required to host calculated infrastructure
- number of required SQL databases
- total required storage
- total required IOPS (this version include initial calculation and will be verified and updated)
- total required bandwidth
Features to be added in the next version:
- support for XenDesktop 7.6
- modified calculation for Hyper-V configuration
- and some more features …..
The sizing tool can be downloaded here: XenDesktop Sizing Calculator
I would like to invite everyone to download this calculator and would be happy to hear all comments and hints to make this tool better and more usefull.
Enjoy
Great spreadsheet Andrzej ! Are you going to make another one for XenApp ? Thank you.
Hi,
To calculate required infrastructure for XenApp simply set 100 % for Hosted Shared in Input -> section Split for FlexCast types.
Regards
Andrzej
Thank you Andrzej Great spreadsheet
One idea i have is in the example of 1 site and 1 DC i want to be able to accomodate a host blade failure or a cell that you can state how many blades can fail and users not be effected.
Matt,
I will add your idea to my ToDo list and will try to add this feature in the next version
Andrzej
looks pretty well. Thank you.
What are the features your tool will offer compared to the ones proposed within the Citrix Project Accelerator sizing tool ?
Hi,
Thank you for your comment.
Just off the top of my head:
– it’s standalone
– you can perform calculation for more than 5000 users per data center
– more easier to make a split based on the user, application and flexcast type
– easily add or modify the additional sections required for estimation
– information from output sheet can be used in next step project calculation eg. having the number of sql server and databases you can easily estimate the total cost of DB maitenance and management etc.
Important note:
My calculator is not a competitor of Citrix Project Accelerator sizing tool or any other tools available on the market. This is just my input to make the preparation for VDI projects more clear and easier 🙂
Sounds great ! Will test it asap. Good job !
Hi Andrzej,
It appears that the input fields ‘Type of Profile’, ‘Server OS’, ‘Hypervisor’ and ‘SSL Required’ cannot be changed as they are protected, can you either provide the unprotect password or advise on how to change?
Other than that it looks great!
Hi,
I the current version these fields are configured with single value. In the next version some of them will be populated with list of choices and selection will be allowed.
Regards
Andrzej
Nice work Andrzej. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Cheers,
Jeremy
This need a password??
To perform calculation password is not needed.
Hi, In your sheet, how to interpret the number of servers / cores / memory required? Which server/processor model was used to arrive at the baseline?
Password is required to change hypervisor for example. Or any grey parameter.
All grey parameters are default values. If you want to calculate using different values modify yellow field in the corresponding row.
There is no yellow field for Hypervisor choice, when will this be available ?
Hi Andrzej,
Could you please share the password to unprotect the sizing sheet? We would like to test your tool for sizing our citrix infrastructure based on our custom requirements.
Thanks
Rajat
Hi,
Great Tool. Have you released a new version where we can choose other fields like type of hypervisor and profile type?
I’m working on new version but I have a small delay 🙂
Hi
Do you know when the next version will be released please?
Its really nice we need input on hyper v as it requires on scvmm it should also manageable for xenapp.
You can add on demand application variable
Cheers,
Abdul .
HI Any idea when you are going to release new version where we can select Hyper visors ?
Hi Andrzej,
Could you please share the password to unprotect the sizing sheet? We would like to test your tool for sizing our citrix infrastructure based on our custom requirements.
Thanks
Steve
Hi.
Can its possible to add secondary hard disk to dedicated machine created using mcs reply is highly appreciated ?
Could it be possible to get the password to unprotect the spreadsheet?
Thanks.
It would be great to have a manual to understand the values we put in the fields, i´m a noob at this and tying to learn but i cant seem to figure out everything i need to put in there =(
Hi, just curious, does this apply to xenApp 7.6 as well?
Hello RAM in Blades what does it means? I calculated for 2000 users and I got:
Physical Servers Number CPU RAM
XenApp VM Hosts (Blades) 8 8 3
XenDesktop VM Hosts (Blades) 7 7 6
Infrastructure VM Hosts (Blades) 4 4 1
Hi
The sheet seems to be password protected/read only – does anything need to be done to use the sheet e.g. when I try to change an item in the drop down it says the sheet is protected
Thanks Ian
Could it be possible to get the password to unprotect the spreadsheet?
too bad it is locked in to Hyper-V, hate vendor lock ins
Any changes in the memory requirements fields for Pooled VDI in the variable sheet doesnt make any changes to the actual output.
To change to roaming profile a password is needed… can you provide it to us?
Thanks for the tool
Very nice tool but oddly requires password for some of the options
Do you have an updated version of your spreadsheet ?
Any update on latest build of calculator for XenApp & XenDesktop latest versions
Any update, need to update hypervisor, OS, profile type but locked down
This is great. but not easy to edit. do you have something like this for XenApp/XenDesktop 7.x ??
Do you have an update version where type of profile can be changed and Server 2016 included please. thank you.
I was wondering if there is an updated version of this XLS or if the password had been shared?
The sheet doesn’t provide options to select other hypervisor. It’s protected to use Hyper-V.
